I'm using the X-touch mini for a software based fx vocal rack (in a live context), and it's absolutely great ! no dice, in fact it seems the iconic controller may be going out of production: even, one of Behringer's main distributors if I remember rightly, no longer stock either the BCR2000 or the BCF2000.Īctually, the new Behringer range could answer your need. Make it thinner, squarer (so it fits better alongside other gear), fully USB bus-powered, etc. Behringer could take the original design and improve on it, to make the perfect controller.

The BCR2000 is still the best controller of the rotary encoder kind available, and it hasn't seen a single update or upgrade for years, even though it's not perfect. I returned it within 24 hours, that's how bad the encoders were.

The one controller that held promise was the Livid Instruments Code 2, bought it and it, tested it and found the encoders failed to register fast turns, which doesn't happen with the much cheaper BCR2000.

Worthy of mention is DJ Tech Tools Midi Fighter Twister, which is a pretty good attempt at embracing the power of endless rotaries, but unfortunately it has no buttons on the top panel for switching banks instead, these are located on one sides which of course is the smartest place to put buttons because nobody has more than one MIDI controller in their set-up, so there is no chance that access to those buttons will ever be hindered by adjacent MIDI gear. Let's not forget that these products pollute the environment, could someone not just make a decent controller and stop "innovating"? Anyone with half a brain should be able to see this is the only logical solution, and yet manufacturers have the cheek to release new controllers with potentiometers and try to convince us that their new product is better than anything else ever released? Give me a break, please. I switch plugins and the BCR2000 always matches the state of the software. My BCR2000, for example, works flawlessly with Reason and Studio One. Encoders & motorized faders and software, now THAT works. So basically, potentiometers and software inherently don't mix. And even then, soft takeover is inherently a flawed mechanism, but that'd be the topic for another discussion. 256 knobs that you need to manually turn one by one each time you switch banks so they match software parameters, possibly causing parameter jumps if the software being controlled doesn't implement some kind of parameter soft takeover. That's the kind of BS a beginner would believe. If that's not enough for you, you can bank up to 16 times – essentially giving you 256 knobs and 192 buttons. There are 16 knobs and 12 session control buttons on a Launch Control.
